500

500 is a card game that requires 4 players.

Dodgy Dave, Glenn, Michelle and John are the experts.

The object of the game is to score a total of 500 points, or making your opponents have a score of -500 points.

Each player is dealt 10 cards with 3 of the spare cards dealt into the middle. Based on the strength of their hand, each player has the option of bidding, to predict the number of tricks that they and their playing partner will win (a minimum of 6 tricks). They may NOT disclose to each other what cards they hold. The highest bidder (for number of tricks) may then disgard his or her worst three cards and take the 3 from the centre.

The scoring is as follows:

When choosing trumps, spades are lowest, then clubs, diamonds, hearts and finally no trumps

6 tricks - Spades = 120; Clubs = 140; Diamonds = 160; Hearts = 180; No Trumps = 200;

7 tricks - Spades = 220; Clubs = 240; etc...

If the bidder fails to achive the predicted number of tricks, they forfeit the score. The losing team of the hand scores 10 points for each trick that they win.

Jacks play a special role in 500. A jack of the trump suit is the highest card (with the exception of the wildcard), the next highest is the jack of the same colour, but different suit, then it's Ace down to 2.

If no trumps is called, the jack has no significance and it is aces high (with the exception of the wildcard that beats everything)

Okay...I think that was about as clear as mud!
